Edson: I have followed your lead and had a look in the book "Japanese ferries" by Bruce Peter and Tsuyoshi Ishiyama. I do agree that the Kansai Kisen vessels look very similar to this mystery ship. By elimination I have concluded that this might be the ASAVA DEVI (ex-NISHIKI MARU), which was a Maldives-owned vessel I believe. She lasted till 1982, when she had a fire and was subsequently scrapped:

Rd77,
I am also very curious about the small passenger ship in the background.
In my opinion it's an ex-Kansai Kisen (japanese owner of ferries and passengerships).
Probably with colours of other owner.

Understand she did have several but minor fires especially in 1980 when she spent over 2 months at Keppel

Dear Chris, I came upon your pictures by coincident.
According to the German Wikepedia pages the vessel burned out again on a voyage from Jeddah to Singapore on 3rd July 1983.

I was working for the Danish owners and saw the Linda Clausen many times in Hamburg and in Bandar Shahpour, Iran until end of 1979.

Didn't she suffer a second fire, which caused her to be scrapped so soon?
By the way, it seems there is a small passnger ship in the background on your picture! I wonder what her name is?
