Today is 13 th. January 2020, 8 years ago this vessel met a tragic end, which could have been worst if she did not end on the rocks. Had she been in deeper waters offshore the loss of life would have been very high.
Time has passed, but the unfortunate victims will long be remembered especially by their families.

This probably the last photo of this tragic vessel when she was in Malta, she was a regular visitor.Nearly 8 years ,she was wrecked on the 13-1-12. have passed, Time flies ,let us hope that similar accidents will not happen again and lessons have been learned. The relatives of the dead will forever remember this date and her name.

It is said that "no news is good news" but it is only bad news that makes it good news for the media regarding this unfortunate vessel.

She will be in the news again when something worth reporting happens to her.

More than 5 months have passed and it looks like she has been relegated to news of the past.A while ago you got to see and hear about her when you opened a TV or radio or paper but now she has been almost forgotten, though on the island where she is wrecked she is a tourist attraction.

A question comes to my mind ,How is it that she as far as can be seen the daage caused by the grounding on the reef was on her port side and she tried to make safe harbour or shallow waters whilst listing on to her starboard side, maybe overballasting to compensate the ammount of water entering her port side? When I was on a similiar cruise on the MSC. SPLENDIDA we passed the island of Giglio but not that close. The damage to her hull is on her aft part (as far as can be discerned) so it must have been caused whilst turning ??. It was fortunate that the weather was mild and the accident happened close to shore, otherwise the casuality list would have been higher.
A lot of questions need to be answered.

Poor ship handling appears to be the cause of the death and destruction that destroyed this fine ship and killed passengers.

A really great shot, Emmanuel - she was a very fine vessel. I've photographed her myself twice in Barcelona, and never even thought about a tragedy like this could hit her...
I was so terrified and shocked to hear about this catastrophe, and I'm deeply sorry to see her ending her days being a death trap laying on the side with the hull torn up...

My deepest thoughts goes to the ones who lost their lives, and of course their families - it is so sad!

On the 4th of January 2012 just a mere 9 days before the COSTA CONCORDIA met her death, I took this photo with a gathering storm in the background. No one could foretell what this modern giant of the sea, the infamous friday the 13th. had in store for her and her crew and passengers.
Who knows, maybe the grey clouds in the picture were a glimpse of what the future was preparing for her.
