G'day Chris,
Unions stuffed-up Australia (MUA still at it,Tandara Spirit typical eg.) We didn't have Unions in New Guinea back in those days, just before Independence. I towed 9 barges in-line tow back to our Lae moorings one trip.Time I got home I was knackered!!

They were never able to do this is Australasia, they discharged the barges but then delays with the actual discharge of these led o the service being terminated.

G'day Chris,
This is a good shot of LASH ship "Austral Lightning".I worked this ship and "Austral Moon" and "Austral Rainbow" on tug "Jas Hill" in Salamaua Hr 19.2nm about SxW of Lae PNG back in 1977.Farrell Lines employed two shifts on these vessels working 'round the clock-24hrs a day when discharging and loading barges.
