Great comments guys. Sorry I have not commented here as I did not know all this was posted here.

Iron Monarch was announced as sold after Easter for a mere $4 million. She departed Port Kembla May 17th. Handed over to her new owners at anchor off Singapore on May 3rd. From there I lost track of her till last night when I found Iron Monarch on marinetraffic.com off the coast of India south of Mumbai. When she turned to starboard towards Alang was my first confirmation she was being scrapped.

At the time of this post she is at anchor southwest of Alang with the tanker Bow Peace, also awaiting her fate at Alang

Her fate seemed to be a closely guarded secret till now for whatever reason

Rgds

Peter

Thank you Geir for your confirmation of the post made by Peter Karberg to the Forum Peter will miss her more than most because she and he have shared the same "Home Port" and he has provided the site with a good record of her.

As I said in the Forum it is sad for local jobs, sad for sentimental reasons, and even sad for the owners BHP Billiton who will have to write off the reported $17 million facelift mentioned by the Illawarra Mercury.

She has Eta Bhavnagar 15/05-2012, so she is soon on a beach at Alang for demolition :(

Thanks Gordy. If you (or anyone else) finds out who "they" are, then Edson and many others will be very pleased. BHP Billiton will have to write off the reported $17 million facelift mentioned by the Illawarra Mercury. Hears hoping!

Clyde, I have heard a statement saying they ( who they are I dont know) will keep her as a a museum piece, I have heard nothing more than that!

"The Iron Monarch had a $17million facelift last year".
From the 20 January 2012 Illawarra Mercury report. Perhaps that expenditure will help make the sale and keep her at sea.

In amazing condition for her age, from this distance it almost looks as if she was launched in the last year, not 39 years ago.

BlueScope Steel will sell the Iron Monarch after reaching a deal to transport hot-rolled coil from Port Kembla to Western Port by rail from late this year.
