Description:

Stad Amsterdam, New York, July 2004. Splendid beauty, very talllllllll, marched up the Narrows and into the Upper Bay under full sail, and I think everyone in New York stopped and stared. It was the first of July, and we throw a big party in N.Y. on the fourth, so I'm guessing she was a guest for the festivities. But who was this mysterious knockout, and when will I see her again? I have a few other mysterious tall ships on my website, glad to have them identified too, if you can -- look under "sail" at www.don-sutherland.com .

It's the "Stad Amsterdam". Note the Dutch flag and also the red/black flag with 3 white crosses. That's the flag of the city of Amsterdam (taken from the city's crest).

Thanks, Pieter. She is a training ship? Whatever, she is another reason to admire Amsterdam.
