Description:
After several years I finally was lucky to catch ROYAL LOUISE under sails on the lower Havel in Berlin. The photo was taken from my kayak, the camera is a LUMIX Panasonic DMC-TZ18.
ROYAL LOUISE is a 1997 to 1999 in Berlin built replica of the original ROYAL LOUISE built 1831 to 1832 by the Royal Shipyard in Woolwich near London. She was a one third size recreation of a typical Royal Navy frigate, gifted by king William IV. to the king of Prussia Friedrich Wilhelm III.
The old ROYAL LOUISE was scrapped in 1947 on order of the allies.

The new ROYAL LOUISE sails the waters of the lower Havel river / lakes in Berlin and Potsdam as did the old one. She is registred in Potsdam, spend the winters down-rigged to the lower masts in a historic boat shed on the Pfaueninsel (Peacock Island) in Berlin, which was errected for the old RL. Until her historic summer berth in Potsdam is available, her base is at a yacht club on the Wannsee, a Havel lake in Berlin. That club owned the old one from 1921 to 1926.
Regards,
Werner
