Description:

*View from the starboard flare of the bow on 'MSC Christina', looking down on the port side hull of the 'Hua Ling'. It gives some idea of how far through the hull of the Chinese ship she passed.*

On 08/03/2005 'MSC Christina' collided with the Chinese bulker 'Hua Ling', IMO 7392878, in the Yellow Sea near Qingdao, China (In approximate position 34.12N, 122.38E ).
Both vessels were locked together and subsequently towed towards the Chinese coast. 'Hua Ling' was sliced in two & so badly damaged that the stern part sank before salvage could be attempted.
After both parties made claim & counter claim against each other in the Ningbo Maritime Court, all claims were subsequently withdrawn and it was dealt with by a Settlement Agreement between both parties.

Guten Morgen Jens, hahaha, I like your comment regarding Mein Schiff 2 as a 'casualty'. I have to say that perhaps my favourite images are of casualties & drydocks/repairs.... I am often amazed as to how much damage ships cause, especially in collisions. And it *was* my favourite place to be at work when I was at sea. Despite being the hardest amaount of work!
I am passing by Hamburg tomorrow morning (Friday) on my way home, but sadly, I will not have time to stop for a coffee with you(!). So, you will have to come over to Felixstowe for a coffee instead!
Gruß,
Rick (in Odense).

Cool shot, Rick! - And three casualties in a row in the top three (if you're counting in my photo of Mein Schiff 2). Well, for some people around here she IS a casualty, isn't she?:-D
