Thank you Clive for what I believe is your herewith much reasonable explanation.
Although the funnel "balconies", or what ever being "the broad white bands" (including the partitions within them) and all of this being impressively built along the both sides of the funnel, anyhow create a different illusion of this cruiser's primary funnel function.
Clive, let's stick in final to your point! I agree, ty.

Thanks for the compliment, Clive, and for further explanation (i.e. both your point of view and Jadran's question).

Nice photo, Jens -

Jadran, I have to admit that I was confused by your question, in fact I still am. Are you imagining that those broad white bands to the sides and partially at the front of the funnel structure are balconies to cabins?
If so, all that I can say is can you imagine how awful they would be?
Those broad white bands are just part of the funnel structure.

I believed somehow that Clive would be appropriate to give any answer about my down below query, because he was fortunate enough to be able to go aboard this well cruiser.
I remain still hopeful in await of Clive for any possible good explanation, and also for all you guys if you eventually know something about my query.

I always wonder seeing this cruiser, are there passenger cabins, or what ever they are surrounding the funnel, but on the General Arrangement of the Deck Plan of this cruiser, there is not presented anything of a such.
What are in any case the balconies around the funnel??
I believe a good question for everybody.

It's a cracking photo Jens. I agree totally with what you say. It's the same old negative comments and teeth-sucking time and time again. - We know you don't like it, move on please! Clive, it's rather disrespectful to brand people 'dimwitted' for choosing a name you don't like.

Incidentally, for those who haven't had the pleasure of a cruise on a modern cruise ship, I would wholeheartedly recommend it !

OK, so let me try and put a slightly different slant on my earlier comments. I think that this is a really good photo and I think that the way in which the sun has caught the balconies and also strikes the hull emphasises the hull graphics. When the sister of this ship, Galaxy, was new she called at Southampton on her delivery voyage, I was fortunate enough to be able to go aboard her. I was impressed by her internally appointments (after all that is what a passenger vessel is all about). Also, I found her to be impressive and striking externally, yes, big and angular, but never the less impressive. It is interesting to see how the two ships have evolved during recent years and, as I said before, internally she now looks even better! A product for the German market or not, I'd certainly consider sailing on her or her sister.

Rick, thanks for the compliment and not moaning about her exterior!:-D

I don't give a 4X Jens, this is a particularly great photo of yours...Maybe I should take a cruise myself, and see what all the fuss is about (inside the ships!). Keep snapping away buddy.
All the best, Rick

Isn't there still a child inside us all? It's just that the toys have become bigger, too!:-D

Edit
comment

Me neither, Denis, I've never set a foot aboard a cruise ship (i.e. on ANY ship other than a harbor ferry). - The only thing that's boring is that people constantly have to express their dislike of certain cruise ships (Norwegian Epic in general, new superstructure of Costa Neoromantica, super graphics on Mein Schiff 1 and 2 and the AIDA fleet etc.) Nowadays I don't have to see the photo in such cases, I only have to read the comment and I know who wrote it and I know the ship, but after a while this is getting tiresome and irritating...

Edit
comment

person
I don't know how it's there inside - never been on cruise, I see only external views of these ships here & that's enough to say that one is beautiful & that one has a forehead massive than another one.

Edit
comment

person
Boring? Hm... at least tonight it's keeping me quite entertained;-)

Edit
comment

person
It's not an ugly cruiser, just one of the many boring ones.

Edit
comment

person
Well, Clive, we may like her exterior or not, but TUI created this concept especially for the German cruise market and to me it seems it's a success.
The Germans seem to like these two ships - there's no accounting for taste!:-D

Edit
comment

person
No problem, Pieter. That's the way we are: Orderliness is of uttermost importance!:-D... but wait... there's one exception: my flat!

Edit
comment

person
The only thing that is not awful about this ship are her beautiful interiors - and I suppose that is all that most of her passengers are concerned about. After all, a proportion of them were dim witted enough to vote for the name Mein Schiff in the first place.

Edit
comment

person
Thanks Jens, and everytime when I think the Germans have some sense of humour, I get disappointed...(don't take this personally, pls)

Edit
comment

person
No, Pieter, it isn't. The name of her sister "Mein Schiff" was chosen from a public survey. When it was clear that TUI Cruises wanted a second ship, they renamed her "Mein Schiff 1" and accordingly this one here became "Mein Schiff 2". Owner of both vessels to my knowledge is TUI Cruises, a joint venture between TUI AG and Royal Caribbean...

Edit

Is this ship financed through a Parten Rederei construction? So it is o lot of people's ship?

Edit
comment

person
... but as always they fulfilled their purpose: the ship got your attention!:-)
