Thank you Nigel. You did a better job of spreading that news than the company. I had merely guessed at what you have researched.

Clyde - They had Salome's official naming ceremony in Sydney by the Managing Director of VW Australia, followed by a ships tour for the 200 guests. That will be the reason for the visit to Sydney rather than the normal port call at Port Kembla for N.S.W. deliveries of vehicles and rolling cargo. There is a news item on the WWL website.

Thanks for the kind words Nigel. I am fortunate to have a choice from a number of elevated locations facing south. This pic was taken from an escarpment 65m above sea level with 270o views. See Google Earth 33°50'12.30" S 151°15'33.75" E

Some car ships look better than others in my opinion. The extra 35m of length helps the 4 Mitsubishi Nagasaki built Mark 5 RoRos look much more balanced in shape than their DSME or Hyundai built stable mates that are around 228 m LoA. The bow shape is more sightly as well. Nice photo Clyde, as always from you. You have enough elevation to show the top deck and the line of ventilators very well, and the harbour cliffs add a nice balance to the photo. When Salome came to Auckland about a week earlier, she arrived in the middle of the day which is very unusual for a WWL vessel. I expect they were showing customers over the vessel here as well, as it stayed in port a full 24 hours and departed around Midday the next day.

Don't like the ship, but the composition is first class !

Thank you all. She seems to be on a fly the flag voyage as vehicle carriers do not come to Sydney Harbour anymore. But I live in hope as I like the efficiency with which they carry product from manufacturer to retailer.

Thanks Knut Helge. I missed lunch to capture a maiden voyage entry. I doubt that she will be back as the vehicle unload terminal is to be used for other (unannounced) purposes.

Best regards, Clyde
