They are floating hotels as we all know by now apart from the folks with bad eyesight ehi always mistake them with livestock carriers :) try both including the food served and decide whats more comfy. I have never used such big floating hotel only baltic and british ferries for short "cruises" so cant say yet

Marce, keep in mind that QM2 is built as an oceanliner as well as a cruiseship. She is designed for North Atlantic crossings as well as tropical waters. That is why her design is so unique.

Even nowadays a cruise ship may be beautiful as long as designers are willing to produce such a design. The "Queen Mary 2" is an example. Sad to say, she is a unique case.

Phil, I absolutely understand the marketing of hull art, just wish they didn't need to do it. GETAWAY's hull art is better. Max is highly over rated, but he is a cultural icon, and that part I understand.

Yes, the art is not to everyone's taste, Finn. I think it will make a good photo opportunity though. I also agree with you Jon that cruising is not to everyone's taste, but live and let live. The constant negativity of some people here is depressing!

You may have a point there Phill English... for me, i don't fancy a cruise, i've thought about it, but not for me, but if others enjoy it, fantastic.... as for the ships, i think they are impressive looking, but i prefer looks of likes of Norwegian Dawn/ Jewel, a little more sleek looking.

Agreed Phil! But I do not like the Peter Max 'art'. Otherwise, a very fine SHIP.

Thanks for sharing this photo with us Jochen. I wonder if I'll catch this one on my travels at some point. I certainly hope so. Yes, it's about money - about giving passengers what they want at a reasonable cost. Nothing wrong with that. Some of you should actually try cruising, instead of bleating on about something you know nothing about !

Interesting that there are people who seem to admire the exterior of such "ships". Much taste?

As the songs says 'it's all about the money, money, money...' they look impressive if nothing else....

Another block of flats that people call a ship
Why don't we build classic lined cruise ships like the France
Pack em in and take the money who cares what they look like

I know, Jochen. I was out yesterday to take some photos. It must have been either Vienna Express or COSCO Europe I heard sailing by, I'm not sure which one...:-)
On the radio they say it'll get sunnier day by day now, so I'll keep my fingers crossed for a sunny float-out tomorrow!
