Description:
Famous GALEB, now GALEB-T, St. Vincent&Grenadines flag, photo from December 2003. in Viktor shipyard at Rijeka, where conversion in luxury yacht had to be made. Unfortunately, until these days ( I saw her last week ) nothing happened, and vessel is in bad condition with uncertain future. Pity !

she was Italian built and owned banana reefer RAMB III, delivered in 1938. from Genova Sestri shipyard. During the WWII she had various casulties - to mention the serious ones:
After requisition from Italian Army in June 1940. she became armed merchant cruiser D6. Torpedoed and sunk in Benghazi, Lybia on 30th May, 1941. Later raised and towed to Trieste. As for Italy capitulation in September, 1943., German forces seized her in port of Rijeka, Croatia and she became minelayer KIEBITZ for Kriegsmarine. In Rijeka she was bombed on 5th November, 1944. Sunk, later raised and repaired by ex-Yu government. In 1950 she sailed again as GALEB for Yu navy in role of presidential ship ( late president Tito ) and training ship. In former decade and half laid up in Montenegro, sold in 2000. to Greek buyers. Towed to Rijeka shipyard once again, waiting for conversion to luxury yacht, but, due to disputes between owner and shipyard, she still lies there in this condition.

My best complements for all the photos and great comments. I'm glad to see that somebody put the photo of legendary Galeb on shipspotting. Do you maybe have any photo from Galeb's better times, when it was active in the navy ? And as you have great knowledge about ships I'd like to ask you if you know something about the ex Yu navy destroyer "Split", built a long time ago (1958) in 3.maj, Rijeka ? What happend with this ship ?! Was it sold, scrapped ? Until when it was in the Yu navy ? Do you maybe have any photo of this ship ? I saw "Split" on "defencetalk.com".
Best regards,
Bojan.

I did not look at my previous pictures for some time, and there were also some travels. For these older pictures I must look if I have something ( my scanner is now out of order ), and of destroyer I will ask Petar, he is better expert on this field. If you are taking photos of ships, I am interested for bulker ASTA ( homeport Šibenik ) which is due to arrive at Koper with cargo from Sorel during July.
