Description:

The Oceanographic Research vessel ATLANTIS was built by the U.S. Navy for operation by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts. Her Navy designation is T-AGOR 25, the "T" indicating that she is not manned by Navy personnel. Several sisters operate for other agencies. The ATLANTIS serves as support vessel for the submersible ALVIN, and the two vessels were the team that located the remains of the RMS TITANIC. She was built at Halter Marine's yard at Moss Point MS, not to be confused with Halter's Moss Point Shipyard in Escatawpa MS.
