Hi Phil, I know you do your best and I appreciate it!

And with Damen, IHS-Fairplay is even more confusing by insisting that vessels are completed in Netherlands when the the yard in China or Vietnam delivered complete. Presumably a Damen "request".
Despite years of asking, a "main contractor" field has never been developed.

Ralph, you'll be pleased to know that Clarkson shows Arctech as the builder of BALTIKA. I can't say that we get it right in all cases though, especially where some of the Damen ships are concerned!

Exactly Phil, I regularly find useful info about the various Damen vessels on this site! I had a look in the quarterly update I get from IHS Fairplay: they list the builder of the BALTIKA as Yantar as well. I think Clarkson's works with someting called "Main newbuild contractor" to further muddle things (sorry Phil)

When ships are under construction, it's often unclear as to how much of a ship a subcontractor is building. Sometimes the hull, sometimes almost the whole ship, with only final outfitting at the yard where the contract was placed. In fact, it's often only photos here on shipspotting which tell the real story of hulls being towed (or carried) from one place to another. :-)

Grosstonnage isn't the only database that suffers the same problem. Similar with IHS-Fairplay too, with the hull subcontractor getting all the credit. It can be pain to find things, having to guess which subcontractor might have been used.

Interesting that Grosstonnage.com notes Yantar as the main builder, where in fact Yantar only built blocks, which were then assembled at Arctech:
