By early nineties, Gdynia Shipyard had only little experience with container carriers, having built so far
only a couple of B-354 semicontainer ships and B-564 mini-bulkers - also designed to carry containers:

Things changed in 1994, when the shipyard begun to deliver full-scale container ships, which became
main product for over a decade. Not less than 88 vessels, of 17 in-house designed types, were built.

The first was two-vessel series 8111 (L = 187,0 m, B = 30,0 m, H = 16,8 m, capacity: 2078 TEU).
Both ships were delivered gearless; cranes were installed after 12 years of service, around year 2006.
