Description:
Grounding at Porvoo Tugs try to free Bremen-based Rigel Schiffahrts’ chemical/oil carrier Weserstern, 6,441 dwt, carrying more than 7,500 tonnes of
naphtha, after it ran aground early on 02-April 2006 while approaching Neste Oil’s Kilpilahti refinery near Porvoo in southern Finland. The
1992-built, Isle of Man flagged ship sustained slight damage and took on a small amount of water, but there were no injuries or spill
reported. Local media later said tugs succeeded in towing the ship from rocks and divers were surveying the hull. The cargo was
discharged and Finnish Maritime Administration officers were investigating the cause of the accident but alcohol was ruled out.
