Standing NATO MineCounterMeasure Group 1 (SNMCMG1) operate in northern Europe and SNMCMG2 operate in southern Europe as a rule although they do sometimes make visits to all parts of Europe

Ahh, I see or wood as in days gone by. Still, it must make them fairly fragile.I suppose they wouldn't be armed as they wouldn't want to be engaging with an enemy lest they be holed !

Hi MattyBoy ship's hulls are made with GRP or Aluminium non magnetic

So these vessels would have a degaussing attachment to their hull. Would I be right in that thinking? I saw a picture of the RMS Queen Mary in 1945 arriving in NY & she had this degaussing device attached to her hull/upper works. Doesn't that have an effect on a ships compass?

Thanking you in advance,

Ahh yes NATO. I forgot about that. Thanks for that info Tom. Strange name/acronym to have. I wonder who thinks up these names? I just googled it. Apparently it's called, MCFMN.

Kind regards

MattyBoy - Germany and Turkey are both NATO nations. Back in the 1980's/1990's, there was a 'Standing Naval Force Channel', which consisted of mine warfare ships from various NATO nations. Not sure what this force is called nowadays. - Tom

Thank-you for those informations, Robert.
Would I be right to think it strange that a Turkish military vessel is tied alongside a German one? I didn't think navies did that sort of thing. I thought it was all cloak & dagger, not wanting to advertise their military technology etc,etc
