An excellent photo Vladimir. Thank you for posting it.
This little ship has had an interesting life, starting out as the Trawler ''Niedersachsen'' when built in 1951 by Abeking & Rasmussen Gmbh & Co (4579). 233 g.t.
She was renamed ''Ster'' in 1966 under Norwegian ownership, until 2000 and then passed to Gibraltar registered owners as the ''Ster II''
At an unknown time she was converted to a general cargo ship.
In October 2006 she was arrested in a joint operation by Spanish, British, French and American Authorities when 1,600 miles South of the Canary Islands. 2 tonnes of cocaine , valued at £60 million were found in the hold.
The six crew, five Senegalese and one person from Guinea Bissau were arrested without a struggle.
As of today, 29/12/2008, the vessel remains detained at Las Palmas awaiting a Court decision for disposal. Surely , she will go to be scrapped now ?
Regards, Rick
