Thanks for the info everyone. Can you get access into the port at all?

You will need a car to get from Rozenburg to the Maasvlakte, which is where the Rotterdam shipspotting gang mainly hang out

Matty, the Pico Bar Hotel in Rozenburg,is used to host shipspotters, it is cheap and not too bad. Try to rent a bicycle, and the Landtong will be 5 minutes away, and 9 kilometers long.

If you only want to view, Hook of Holland is good as you could see most of the passing traffic - taking photos can be difficult as sun in wrong place. Rozenburg can be good if you like walking, it's a fair old hike along the Landtong though. You could stay in Rotterdam and take the Spido trips to see some of the port - or even take the train to Maassluis or Hook of Holland for the day.

MattyBoy,

You would be better off staying in the Hook of Holland. You can walk to the seafront and there are ferry's to Europort 5 Euro return to view ships there. You would need to check the schedule depending what time of year you are going. Regular trains to Rotterdam where you can get a tram from Rotterdam CS to the harbour trip (Spido). You can also get off at Maassluis and short walk to waterfront to observe passing shipping there too.

I'm sure this has been asked before but i've lost the thread. Where's the best place to stay for a few days in Rotterdam that's within walking distance of the port ?
