Description:
Passenger/ferry SOGNEFJORD is here photographed in june 1978 just south of Måløy, Norway during her regular route between Bergen and Nordfjord.
She was built 1943 in Chicago,Ill. as patrol-vessel PCE 833 for US Navy. Between 1943 and 1946 she was on lend to Royal Navy as HMS KILHAM.
In 1948 she was sold to Norway and brought to Haugesund where she was rebuilt to passenger/ferry, and when put into service again in 1950 she carried the name SOGNEFJORD. She was one out of seven similar former KIL-class vessels which was bought to Norway and rebuilt.
SOGNEFJORD was taken out of traffic in 1982, and in 1984 she was sold domestic and renamed ORION. In 1987 she was sold foreign, but still carrying the name ORION.
In 1995 she was renamed ORION II, and in 1997 her name was changed to ORION EXPLORER.
She is still in existence, although laid up, last reported position is Malaysia
