WELCOME TO SHIPSPOTTING.COM
Description:
The heavylift carrier Happy Delta carrying storage tanks for an oil and chemical terminal. I don't know which terminal.
Seeing this ship reminded me of the great Dutch ship designer Ernst Vossnack, who worked for Nedlloyd for a long time.
He became hooked to the idea that chemical tankers should be constructed with vertical circular tanks within the hull. He called it the bottle tanker. Unfortunately the problem of the empty space around circular tanks could not be solved (in economic terms) and the reduction of payload could not be off-set by a much greater ease of tank cleaning (and damage repair). I still have the drawings that he made.
Ernst Vossnack was an inspiring man and I count myself lucky to have known have him (and to have survived a cartrip with him as the driver)
If he could have seen this ship with this cargo passing by (from his home one km away from this spot) I am sure he would have jumped for joy. Unfortunately he had passed away 10 years before this picture was taken, aged 84.
