Many ships, especially large vessels have their IMO number painted on the front of the superstructure just below the bridge.

Looking at other photos of this vessel, she seem to have her IMO number painted on front of the accommodation. As long as it's painted somewhere visible I guess it's ok, doesn't have to be on the stern (although that's the most common). :-)

SOLAS regulation XI-1/3 requires ships' identification numbers to be permanently marked in a visible place either on the ship's hull or superstructure. Passenger ships should carry the marking on a horizontal surface visible from the air. Ships should also be marked with their ID numbers internally.

Interesting photo. Looks like she's been patched/painted up on more than one occasion. Isn't it standard practice to have an IMO number painted on the stern?
