Description:
The history of the ship
The ship Brita Leth was built at Øxenbjerg shipyard, Svendborg in 1911 for freight sailing. Brita Leth sailed for many years in Sweden. During a storm, the ship sank south of Samsø in 1941. Shortly after, the ship was raised and repaired by M.A.Fyvbjerg.
During World War II, Brita Leth was used to transport Jews across the Sound to Sweden in safety. The largest single transport of Jews from Denmark to Sweden was on board Brita Leth. After the war, the ship functioned as a stone and wreck fisherman until it, like a worn-out wreck, was put up for sale.
Today, the ship looks almost like the time she left the shipyard in Svendborg in 1911. Brita Leth has of course been equipped with modern navigation and safety equipment.
