I understood that the first SD14's were contracted for 1 million pounds in 1967

Hi there!
It's a Unity-type vessel. Already a bit outdated when built but a very nice design.

But a lot more expensive I would expect. SD14's were built to keep costs to a minimum

May be not so successful, but much better looking.
