According to the responsible Waterways and Shipping Authority (WSA), the freighters "Bjoerkoe" and "Paivi" had collided on Tuesday under the Levensau High Bridge in Kiel - why is not yet clear. According to an eyewitness, the two freighters crashed head-on into each other on the Kiel Canal. There was a loud bang and crew members were thrown several meters through the air.
