Description:

Built by LD Marine & Ship Repairs in Launceston & launched in 1991 the Mirambeena was a vehicular ferry of 500 GT / 350 DWT 52 metres x 13 metres with a capacity of 74 vehicles. It featured the Voith-Schneider propulsion system. After faithfully serving on the Bruny Island run for 30 years the vessel was retired on 25 May 2021.

The ship has remained in storage at Prince of Wales Bay Hobart since it’s retirement. This week saw the ship moved to a nearby wharf & breaking activities commence.

It should be noted that one of the two wheelhouses has been donated to the Channel Folk History Museum at Margate.
