Description:

CAPE DUCATO is here seen westbound in the western part of the Mediterranean in January 1991.
She was built 1972 by Eriksberg, Gøteborg as BARRANDUNE for the Swedish Red. AB Transatlantic. She was one of five sister vessels built for the ScanAustral Service, which Transatlantic operated together with the Danish EAC and Norwegian Wilhelmsen companies.
In 1985 she was sold to US Government (MARAD), and renamed CAPE DUCATO.
Much of the time since then, she has been laid up in so called "moth bag", ready to be put in service in a short time. But she has also had periods as active, like the crisis in the Middle East, when she was used for transporting military equipment.
