This picture has 3 levels of enjoyment for me namely 1) the forest of turbines at the back, 2) the outgoing tanker being tentatively manoeuvred, 3) presumably what is a local ferry/harbour tour vessel of interesting design.

Re 1: Wind turbines are ruining shots in the Rotterdam port area, you have to carefully select a spot for a good photo to keep them out of the picture, and if that is not possible, you have to make sure that the position of the turbine and blades is such, that you can easily delete them with photoshop.
Re 2: The tanker in incoming
Re 3: The ferry is the sad remnant of what was one the fast ferry service that connected the Hook and the Rozenburg Landtong with several stop-overs on the Maasvlakte, with an hourly service. The service was suspended early last year and has been reintroduced with this small craft, which links the Hook to one stop at the Maasvlakte, (Futureland) on a two hour basis. This is bound to end when the Futureland exposition will be moved to a new building south of the Maasvlakte. (with a particularly good view on the nudist beach) For the new set-up the authorities sadly decided that access via water is not possible, so the planned excursions from there will be by bus and the ferry service will most likely be cancelled.

Thank you Pieter for you interesting notes and observations. A shame regarding the ferry service. Still, it goes to show that the authorities must know what they are doing !!

"must"?

Aside from the fact all the passengers have square heads, this is a really great picture. I am enjoying it very much especially with that beast in the background

Square heads: indeed; for privacy of the persons in the picture.
