Description:

A most memorable ship which arrived at Avonmouth on 20th June 1973, exactly fifty years ago today, was Guan Guan's 1954 Wm.Pickersgill, Sunderland, built GOLDEN BRIDGE.

Her arrival at Avonmouth was unexpected, not only as she normally traded in the Far East but also as she was reported by Lloyd's as bound for London, having sailed from Karachi (on 17th April). Confusingly, a recently renamed coaster of the same name (IMO 5258391) arrived at London at much the same time.

Her arrival at Avonmouth was very fortunately delayed by one tide as, having anchored in Barry Roads the previous evening, she was initially unable to raise her anchor.
