(The letters in Teekay, T K stands for it's founder, Torben Karlshøj, a Danish national, who from very early on moved his operation to Canada and America.)
To this day, only a few pictures of Torben Karlshøj exist. Very little, apart from what he accomplished in shipping, is known about him. He totally avoided the press and didn't like publicity at all. Once asked by a Danish reporter, who finally caught up with him, where he was now living, Karlshøj just shook head and answered, " I don't live anywhere"
Torben Karlshoj died of a heart attack from shortly after Teekay's vessel Nagasaki Spirit collided with the container ship Ocean Blessing. All hands were lost on the Ocean Blessing and there were only two survivors on the Nagasaki Spirit. This incident occurred on September 19, 1992, and Torben died on October 3, 1992.
