Description:

The former whalecatcher POL II, built at Oslo in 1926, as the Danish owned ARTEMIS off Horten on 19th April 1975.

She had been converted in 1948 into the Swedish flagged cargo ship LISTER and was lengthened in 1951. Sold in 1966 to Hans Hermansen of Marstal, it is unclear if she continually traded until 2001 when sold and converted into an auxiliary barque for cruising, operated sicne 2006 by Tallship Artemis BV of Harlingen, Netherlands.

Built in 1926 as " POL II " by Nylands Mekaniske Verksted A/S Oslo Norway for Hvalfangerselskapet Polaris A/S (Melsom & Melsom Rederi A/S Nanset Larvik), Larvik Norway. Delivered 29/07.Caught for Fl/f " N. T. NIELSEN-ALONSO ".

Tonnage : grt / nrt / tdw - 240 / 79 / ---.
Machinery : Steam Reciprocating Engine Triple Exp 3-Cyl (13,8”–22,0”–37,5”, stroke: 24,0”. 135 nhp. Built by Nylands Mekanisken Verksted A/S Oslo Norway.
Main Boiler : Scottish Boiler (13,5’ x 11,0’) w/ 3 furnice. Total Heatingarea 2.295 ft².Workpressure 200 psi. Built by Akers Mekaniske Verksted A/S Oslo Norway.

1931 Laid up the seasons of 1931/32 and 1934/35.
1935-37 Caught for Fl/f N. T. NIELSEN-ALONSO. Season ended 07/03.Left 21/10 Larvik with whalers POL IV, POL VI, POL VII and POL VIII. Caught for Fl/f " N. T. NIELSEN-ALONSO ".
1940 Free fleet.
1941 Requisitioned in April by Royal Navy.Taken over 30/07 by the Royal Norwegian Navy in Cape Town, South Afrika. Renamed " JELØY ".
1942 Returned 12/06 to Royal Navy. Conversion to a minesweeper completed in October. Renamed " HMS LEVANTER ".Participated in 177 M/S Group, Eastern Fleet, Cochin, India.
1946 Arrived 19/06 at Framnæs Mekaniske Værksted A/S Sandefjord Norway for drydocking and survey. Left Sandefjord 21/06. Returned to owners in August. Renamed " POL II ".
1948 Sold to A/B Rivø (Gustav Bartley Gothenburg) Gothenburg Sweden.
Resold to Sölvesborgs Skeppsmäkleri & Speditionskontor (Adolf Hedberg et. al., Lister-Mjällby), Djupekås, Sweden.
Converted to a cargo ship at Frederikshavn, Denmark. Steam engine and bolier removed. Diesel engine installed: 2CY/SA, 4-cylinders, cyl. dim.: 230 x 400 mm. 250 BHP. Built by A/S Fredrikshavns Jernstøberi & Maskinfabrik, Fredrikshavn,renamed " LISTER ".

1963 Sold to Rederi A/B Lister (Adolf Hedberg Djupekås), Djupekås Sweden.

1971 New engine installed. 4CY/SA, 4-cylinder, cyl. dim.: 270 x 400 mm. 300 SHP. Built in 1961 by Aabenraa Motorfabrik, Åbenrå, Denmark.

1987 H. C. Grube I/S Marstal Denmark became manager.
2000 Sold to Frisian Sailing, Easterlittens, Netherlands. Converted to a 3-masted barque with cabins for 35 passengers on cruise sailings.

2001 New engine installed. Caterpillar type 3408, 4SCSA, 8-Cyl (137 x 152 mm) - 500 bhp @ 1.800 rpm.

2006 Sold to Tallship Artemis BV (Rood Boven Groen, Franeker, Netherlands), Easterlittens.
