Description:

The Cuban owned SD14 type MONCADA, launched at Austin & Pickersgill's Sunderland yard on 4th September 1975 as BELIC and completed on 7th November 1975, was seen two days later transiting the Kiel Canal eastbound at Kiel-Holtenau bound for Szczecin to load for Havana.

Later: 1989 SEVERN - 89 PRIDE OF THE SOUTH - 2001: attacked by Tamil rebels (see below) - scrapped Mumbai 30.11.03

On 16th September 2001 Tamil Tiger rebels attacked the ship, carrying more than 1,200 Sri Lanka Government troops, in the northern Jaffna peninsula of the country.

Over 20 boats of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) launched attacks against the vessel near the northern port of Point Pedro. The soldiers were on their way from Trincomalee to Point Pedro.
