Description:

The tanker D.G. PAPALIOS berthed at Naples in August 1969, having recently been moved there from Savona where she had arrived in tow after suffering engine trouble on a voyage from Rosario, probably with a cargo of grain. She was soon towed on to Valencia for breaking, berthing there on 14 December 1969.

D.G. PAPALIOS was built at Sunderland in 1955 as THORNABY for Ropner and purchased by Papalios in 1966.

As THORNABY, she had visited Avonmouth on 24th May 1964; I plan, on or about the sixtieth anniversary of that call, to post a photo of her passing Portishead inbound on that day.

Many thanks Gentlemen, on reflection, I agree that she was most likely discharging a cargo of grain and not undergoing engine repairs

The towers along side the vessel look very much like grain elevators !, even sticking their sucking pipes into the ship.

Are you sure that isn't a grain discharge terminal? I would suggest she had a grain cargo from Rosario and was completing discharge ( maybe part discharge at Savona??) before going for scrap.
Mid / late 60s it was common to ship grain in tankers.
