2,839 grt; 4,650dwt; 800 passengers. Operator: Société Anonyme de Navigation Angleterre-Lorraine-Alsace, Dunkerque, France. Built 1934 by Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson, Low Walker, Newcastle upon Tyne, Yard no 1446. Machinery: twin screws with 4 x Parsons steam Turbines of 5,000 shp (total). Speed: 15 knots. Built for Southern Railway, London and laid-up in Southampton, awaiting completion of train ferry terminal at Dover. 1936-transferred to French flag; in service Dover-Dunkerque. 1939-requisitioned by Royal Navy at Dover, renamed HMS TWICKENHAM, converted for mine-sweeping. 1940-used as troop transport. 1945-returned to civilian owners, service and original name. 1974-to breakers at San Esteban de Pavia, Spain.
