Glad you got to see her at least.
Cycling 60 miles! try it these days!
I caught the ferry to Shotley last October and cycled home, about 30 miles and lots of hills!

Looking back I can't believe some of the capers I got up to in support of this hobby. Climbing any lighting mast etc to gain a higher viewpoint, swimming across the Thames off KGV Entrance Locks when my mate's small yacht borrowed from Beckton Sewage Works sank midstream (with a 'Bow' dredger heading toward us no less!!) Ah, happy days, lucky I survived really. With H&S and port security being what it is I don't think the younger enthusiasts have the same chances today. But they should stand better a chance of living longer :-)

We all did crazy things in our youth but at least our bodies could take it. Just about makes me religious to see that we all survived.
Today it is more using our wits to outfox the authoriities their miles of chain link fences.
I won't cycle 60 miles any more but I will get up at 3am after 3 or 4 hours of sleep and drive 1,000 miles in bad weather to see a ship I had never seen before and might not ever see again.
I would even fly to Rotterdam from Ohio for the weekend (and then some) but there is one major force that would stop me: my wife!
Keep the oldies coming!

I think you are right John is certainly a hardcore member. Guess we are all a bit crazy. Driving a thousand miles to see a ship is certainly extreme, but then the States is a big country!
Let me know if you get permission to fly to Rotterdam.
I will buy the beer!

must admit I haven't mentioned the subject of the Rotterdam trip to my wife yet. Maybe I'm not that hardcore any longer!
I'm going to pick my moment :-D
