Description:

On 27.2.2008 at 13:20 soon after the pilot had left the ship the 9981 GT container ship OOCL NEVSKIY en route from Helsinki to Kotka ran aground in the vicinity of Harmaja island off Helsinki. Coast Guard and Oil Control vessels were sent to the scene. However, no oil leakage was observed and divers found only minor damage in the ship’s bottom. The accident caused no danger to the 12 crew of the ship. The ship had a cargo of 350 containers and was carrying 66,5 cubic metres of light and 550 cubic metres of heavy fuel oil. She was refloated by the tug and salvage enterprise Alfons Håkans and was able to return to Helsinki using her own engines but escorted by a salvage vessel.

OOCL NEVSKIY is here seen under repair in Helsinki West Harbour about noontime the following day. The ruptures found in the bottom plates of the portside ballast water tanks are being welded by divers. After the repairs the ship was later that evening allowed to continue her journey to Kotka but was required to be drydocked for proper examination and repairs within two months.

Nice photo, I wasn't aware of that incident, very stylish "black red gold" German colors on the bow of this ship ! - Oh well, and Helsinki was very good, and so was Hamburg, where most of my photos are from. Unfortunatelly we have been very busy with the few days we been at Helsinki, otherwise I would have contacted you !
