Description:

SUNY Maritime College training ship EMPIRE STATE (V) as shown while upbound on the St.Lawrence River off Varennes on June 19, 1986.
This vessel was the former trooper U.S.N.S. UPSHUR (T-AP-196) originally laid down as APL's PRESIDENT JACKSON.
She still languishes in the James River Reserve Fleet.

Just one comment; the Empire State was the former USNS Barrett. The State of Maine (training ship for Maine Maritime Academy) was the former USNS Upshur. Excellent photo.
