Description:
SUNY Maritime College training ship EMPIRE STATE (V) as shown while downbound on the St.Lawrence River off Varennes, Québec, on June 25, 1986 following an official visit to Montréal where the Statue of Liberty logo was painted on her sides prior to the celebrations to honor the Statue's 100th birthday. This vessel was the former trooper U.S.N.S BARRETT (T-AP-196) originally laid down as APL's PRESIDENT JACKSON.

Later in 2005, I photographed her in lay up in the James River Reserve Fleet as STATE if I remember well.
