Here is what I have on her, feel free to add information, comment...
Built in 1970 by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. (987) of Kobe, Japan for Australia Japan Container Line at a reported cost of $10 million (US). AJCL was a joint venture between Australian West Pacific Line, China Navigation Co. Ltd., Eastern Australian Steamship Co and Overseas Container Limited (OCL). The vessel was employed on a shared service from Japan to Australia in an alliance with NYK, Mitsui/OSK Line and YS Shipping. In 1991, the vessel was renamed CHITRAL to free the name for a new ship. During 1994, AJCL was acquired by P & O Swire Containers of Hong Kong. In 1996, she was renamed MATILDA BAY. P & O was merged with Nedlloyd in 1998 so the vessel was transferred to P&O Nedlloyd and she was renamed P&O NEDLLOYD TAURANGA. With the introduction newer ships in 2000 it was decided to dispose of older tonnage, the vessel was sold for demolition for a reported $140/LDT. The vessel sailed from Singapore on xxx bound for Shanghai to be scrapped.
